What We Do.........
This page was last updated on: January 3, 2008

We are a full service decorative effects designing studio serving both residential and commercial needs. Faux Painting Finishes has completed faux finishing (decorative artwork) projects throughout Northeastern Florida ranging from a single wall in a modest single family home to an oppulent lobby in an luxurious high-rise apartment building.

We have accomplished faux effects ranging from a single dimension, single color additive rag effect to a multidimensional multi-colored texture that mimics some of natures more exotic materials .

Challenge ranges from how to add  subtle depth and dimension to a single wall in a room (without overpowering the furnishings and accessories already in place)  to making a thirty foot wall, that cannot structurally handle the weight of real limestone blocks, appear to have real French Limestone blocks on it. Challenge is welcome.

Murals, Stencils & Trompe L'oeil
We normally use stencils that are custom made for a specific application or project and this does not occur often. Sometimes, when we are heavily booked, we refer requests for Murals and Trompe L'oeil to a select few Artists who live in the Jacksonville area. Those whom we refer are of portrait quality and do a lot of commissioned work and not all of them will travel outside of the Jacksonville area. We will happily refer an artist of the highest calibre at your request if our schedule requires it.
As time allows, we will make a page of artists known to us and offer this information on another page to make it easier to contact them.
Your Next Project........
If you have a project that you would like an estimate for or, perhaps, would like to have a telephone consultation please call (904)-318-3596 Monday thru Friday from 8:00-5:00 EST. We would be happy to discuss your project and explain what we might need to give you an estimate. We are licensed and insured and have references available upon request. We will be happy to help you however we can.
If, on the other hand, you simply have a problem with an effect that you are in the middle of and can't seem to find the answer anywhere else, give us a call!! We love a challenge--and, we just might have the answer........

Need ideas? Like an effect but can't seem to figure out how it was done or you can't find the decorative artist who did it? Give us a call and we can probably tell you how to duplicate it.
Supplies & Suppliers
While we do not currently sell faux or decorative art supplies we do maintain a small list of manufacturers and suppliers and will offer a list of links to those who have web sites and contact names and numbers to those who do not in the near future.

This site is currently under a major renovation and, as time allows, this list will be added below. Check back often as it will be updated soon!
Classes On Techniques......
From time to time, we offer classes ranging from absolute basic to advanced techniques in the Jacksonville area. Whether you've been  trying to learn how to do a decorative effect or you have taken a couple of classes and are ready for something more challenging, we have a class for you. We do roughly eighty different techniques--some of which are our own--and there is something for everyone. Classes are available to groups of five to ten students and  materials and tools are supplied during the class. The samples that you create are yours to serve as a guide for that home project or add to a portfolio. Class lengths range from four hours to fourty hours. Arrangements can be made to hold classes in areas where you live and for different organizations and groups. For more information on classes and costs please use the "contact us" link.
We understand that not everyone lives in the greater Jacksonville area and many might not be able to travel to Jacksonville. In this case, we can bring the class to your area provided that your group or organization meets requirements to make the travel work for us all. For more information please use the "contact us" link or call 904-318-3596 and we will see what arrangements can be made.
Coming Soon............
I really enjoy what I do. Decorative artwork (faux finishing) is a lot of fun and a continuous learning process. There are always new techniques to learn and develope and the biggest kick for me comes from fooling the visitors to my client's homes. I get  comments like "Samantha thought I had new wallpaper installed" or "My son wondered when the new marble columns were installed"--pretty often. That's when I know I've done a good job. I've done my best job when I get phone calls asking me to consult with someone because of some of my work they may have seen in a friend's home. And, it's a huge world out there.

Not everyone lives in my area and not all that live elsewhere can afford to have me come to them. There are a lot of people where I live that believe--without ever asking what it might cost--that they can not afford even the simplest of my artwork. And, yes, it is artwork because even though I use some universal techniques (and some that are not) in applying the effect to the surface, it is my individual touch, flair, interpretation--call it what you will--that makes it my artwork on that wall.

And, I would like to share that feeling with anyone who believes that they just can't afford to have someone come and do the work. Or, maybe someone who just wants to do-it-yourself. The feeling of creating something pleasing to look at where there was merely a blank wall before. How? Over the internet!

Soon, I will start a "How To" page that will have step by step, very simple instructions with color photos for a lot of the techniques I know. As I add more techniques, I will archive the older ones for future reference. I am aiming at a new effect every other month for a total of six a year. And, each effect will be in a format that you can download and print for reference (without trying to lug your computer into the foyer) while you do your effect.

The first effect will be available to everyone who wants to look. Sort of a sample of what you can learn, so to speak. The rest will be in an online class form for a very reasonable fee--a fraction of what you'd pay for one class from an art school setting The classes include email support (to answer your questions) and, if you're really in a bind, telephone support for those problems you just can't seem to overcome.

If you are interested in internet classes, please use the "Contact Us" link above and we'll get the particulars back to you as soon as possible.
